Term 3 in the Art Room and Heathmont Sketchbook winners

Congratulations to the following students whose sketches of Marlborough were chosen to be published in the upcoming book 'Heathmont Sketches' by the Heathmont Historical Society. The book will feature current Heathmont sites and landmarks and their history, with submissions from local Primary Schools and local artists. The book is due to be launched in October this year.

I would also like to say thank you to all the Grade 5/6 students for being so enthusiastic about submitting their sketches of our school for consideration. Gerry, from the Heathmont Historical Society was particularly impressed with your artistic interpretations of our school surrounds. Well done and congratulations again to our winning artists!

This term in Art, we will be again linking activities to each Unit's integrated topic as well as undertaking a whole school unit of work on Modelling with Clay.

Preps ~ Toys ~ students have been practising their drawing skills and using fineliners to draw Robots. They are also making some Teddy Bears after reading the story 'Corduroy Bear'. When working with clay later in the term, students will be modelling butterflies.

Grade 1/2 ~ Fairytales ~ students have been enjoying singing along to and reading 'Puff the Magic Dragon' while drawing and painting their own dragons. They will also be drawing and painting castles with watercolour paints. When working with clay, students will be modelling their own butterfly wall hanging.

Grade 3/4 ~ Puppets ~ students have been learning about the talented Puppeteer Scott Land and seeing some of his amazing marionettes. They have designed their own marionette and are in the process of constructing them out of a variety of recycled and construction materials. When working with clay, students will be modelling exotic birds.

Grade 5/6 ~ Great Inventions ~ students have been learning about the very talented Leonardo Da Vinci and are in the process of designing and constructing their own flying machines. When working with clay, students will be modelling their own cats and dogs.

3/4 ~ Van Gogh inspired sunflowers

One of our favourite Van Gogh paintings we studied had to be Sunflowers. Grade 3/4 students created their own sunflower artworks with a twist. Vincent's favourite colour was yellow, but we mixed it up a little with our warm and cool colour palettes.
