Preps ~ Term Two artwork
Woven Quilts
Foundation students used coloured paper strips on a paper loom they created to weave a quilt. We focused on the pattern of over and under. It took lots of practice and patience!
The Owl and the Pussycat
Students enjoyed listening to the nursery rhyme of The Owl and the Pussycat, as well as watching a short animation of the rhyme. They were then inspired to make their own mixed-media collage of the Owl and Pussycat sailing in their pea-green boat.
Foundation students were amazing at using fabric scissors to cut up a variety of green coloured fabrics to collage onto their boats. They also used black markers to draw their owls and cats and made their background with oil pastels and watercolour paints.

Prep-2 ~ Malaysian Moon Kites (Wau Bulan)
To tie in with the Prep, 1 and 2 Asia Literacy country of Malaysia, students learned about the traditional craft of kite making. We investigated the shapes of some of the kites and admired the patterns and colours of the materials used to make them.
Each student then made their own Malaysian 'moon kite' (or 'wau bulan' as they are called in Malaysia). The cardboard kite shape was cut out and then collaged with a variety of patterned specialty papers. Some sequins, gems, crepe streamers and ribbons added the finishing touches.

P-2 ~ Commonwealth Games Mascots and our Stars!!!

Our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students learned all about this year's Commonwealth Games Mascot, Borobi. A cute little surfing koala, with indigenous paw markings. We also looked at some of the mascots from previous games in other Commonwealth countries.
Prep students had a go at tracing some hand templates and making their own 'paw markings' using a variety of dots, dashes, lines, patterns and marks.
The Grade 1/2 students experimented with a variety of collage materials to create and name their own Australian Commonwealth Games mascots.
Prep ~ Creatrilogy
We enjoyed sharing the 3 stories from Peter Reynold's Creatrilogy series - The Dot, Ish and Sky Colour. Preps were able to use coloured oil pastels and tempera paints to explore mark making, resists, watercolour paint techniques, lines, patterns and shapes when responding to these books. Here are some of their colourful creations, inspired by the book 'The Dot'.
