As seen on our school's Facebook posts, students have been engaged in a number of creative activities this term in the Art Room.
Foundation and Grade 1 students
We have shared the books 'Happy' by Mies van Hout as well as 'My Many Coloured Days' by Dr Seuss. This led to creating various artworks relating to our feelings and emotions. We talked about colours that might make us feel happy, sad, calm, excited etc.
We have also shared the books 'Beautiful Oops' and 'Straight Line Wonder', as well as investigating the art elements of Line, Shape and Pattern. The best conversations I am hearing at the tables at the moment while students are exploring materials and techniques are based around "there are no mistakes in Art!"
To complement their topic of Celebrations, students have created some Chinese Dancing Lions to celebrate Chinese New Year, as well as travelling to Mexico to make Papel Picados and decorate Sugar Skulls. We are also exploring Children's Day celebrations in Japan and are decorating our own Koinobori (fish kites).
Grade 4/5 students
Enjoyed investigating the work of interactive artist Kelsey Montague, while creating their own digital art with the hashtag #whatliftsyou. Students have also created painted papers to use in collages, inspired by the work of Clare Youngs (photos on FB page).
We are currently exploring some new painting techniques, inspired by the French artist Berthe Morisot and her still life flower paintings.
Grade 6 students
Have completed the #artstylechallenge, drawing themselves in a number of different art animation styles (eg: Anime, Disney, Adventure Time, Roblox, Simpsons etc). We had lots of fun with this!
Students are currently learning about the artist Paul Cezanne and are painting still life paintings, drawing inspiration from Cezanne's use of shape and form (and love of painting apples!)
