5/6 ~ Space Odyssey

"There's a Starman waiting in the sky...." 

The Grade 5/6's have been singing along to David Bowie in the background as we created some 'out-of-this-world' artwork this term!

Elon Musk, with his Starman aboard the Tesla Roadster, was the inspiration for the following artworks. They were created using chalk pastels and glitter paint.

NASA recently released some 'Mars Needs You!' posters - would you like to become a Martian?!?!?

You can download these high resolution posters from NASA (for personal use) by clicking on this site. The Grade 5/6 students enjoyed discussing the graphic elements of these posters and had a go at improving their Visual Communication skills by designing their own 'Explorers Wanted' posters.

Students also spent some time in Art painting some tyvek sheeting to create a large mat (Mars' surface) for their STEAM project....

P-2 ~ Commonwealth Games Mascots and our Stars!!!

Not long now until the Commonwealth Games begin in Queensland! Do you remember in 2016, we folded stars out of recycled papers, which were to eventually go on display during the Commonwealth Games? Check this post if you can't remember, but the time has finally come and they are now on display in Brisbane for all to see. Wonderful to know that we contributed to this inspiring installation of One Million Stars. Well done Marlborough!

Our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students learned all about this year's Commonwealth Games Mascot, Borobi. A cute little surfing koala, with indigenous paw markings. We also looked at some of the mascots from previous games in other Commonwealth countries.

Prep students had a go at tracing some hand templates and making their own 'paw markings' using a variety of dots, dashes, lines, patterns and marks.

The Grade 1/2 students experimented with a variety of collage materials to create and name their own Australian Commonwealth Games mascots.

Prep ~ Creatrilogy

We enjoyed sharing the 3 stories from Peter Reynold's Creatrilogy series - The Dot, Ish and Sky Colour. Preps were able to use coloured oil pastels and tempera paints to explore mark making, resists, watercolour paint techniques, lines, patterns and shapes when responding to these books. Here are some of their colourful creations, inspired by the book 'The Dot'.

Term 1 ~ 2018

What a colourful start to the year we've had! Our new Foundation students have settled beautifully into our Visual Arts program and have been very engaged during their lessons. 

So what is in store for this term in the Art Room?

The Grade 5/6 students have been learning about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We read a book all about her life and have been working on our own artworks inspired by the dots, shapes and patterns used by Kusama in her work.

The National Gallery of Victoria is currently hosting an installation by Yayoi Kusama, titled 'Flower Obsession'. You can find more details by clicking here. You can also find some of our 5/6 students' Kusama-inspired work on display in the office

Grades 3 and 4 have been learning about the Elephant Festival in India, creating their own Festive Elephants out of painted papers, chalk pastels and a variety of decorative materials. They are looking so vibrant! Photos of finished work still to come.

Grades 1 and 2 enjoyed reading the book 'There's Only One You' by Linda Kranz and all contributed to this colourful display on show in the office.

Foundation students have been introduced to some of our routines, techniques and elements of Art while sharing the Creatrilogy series of books by Peter H Reynolds. Photos of their finished work will be posted shortly!
