Over and Under, In and Out, Up and Down!!!

Warp, weft, weave, loom, strand, yarn, spool, needle....... lots of new vocabulary being used in the Art Room this term as we undertake a whole school Threads and Textiles unit.

Here's a snippet of what's been happening....

Foundation students have been weaving with strips of paper onto paper looms and experimenting with a wide variety of threads and textiles woven into plastic netting.

Grades 1/2 have been weaving with colourful paper strips to create a body for their mixed media owls.

They are currently exploring the threads in hessian and making fringing, as well as beginning to thread needles and stitch lines.

Grades 3/4 have been weaving on straw looms, crafting some interestingly textured bookmarks. They are also getting right into finger knitting.

Grades 5/6 have been recycling old CDs and DVDs and transforming them into looms to weave mandalas, dream catchers, coasters and wall hangings. Pom pom making is also a big hit!

And we have all been enjoying sharing and discussing the following books in Art classes.

More photos of completed student work to come.
