5/6 ~ Gold

While learning about Gold this term, the students in Grade 5/6 investigated the artwork of Gustav Klimt. Here are their interpretations of Klimt's Tree of Life.

Students also experimented with jewellery making - manipulating wire, beads, watch parts, jewellery findings, jump rings, cabouchons, leather thong, chains and keys to sculpt Steampunk-inspired pieces.

5/6 ~ Clay pets

During our whole school unit on working with clay, Grade 5/6 students modelled their own miniature pets/animals. Some students chose to make their pet from a pinch pot, turned upside down, with features added. Others sculpted more complicated forms, along with toys and food bowls! Once dry, the pets were painted with tempera paints and a final coat of mod podge gave them some shine! They are so cute! Well done Grade 5/6.

5/6 ~ Gifted and Talented Group ~ Canvas art

Have you seen the new artwork in the Office? The following Grade 5/6 students created these canvases as part of a Gifted and Talented Art Group in Term 3.

Artists: Kallarney, Olivia, Sasha, James, Harua, Evie, Lewis, Kaela V, Teig, Paislee, Ava and Siobhan.

We were inspired by the abstract art and collages of Rex Ray.

We began by printing a variety of textured papers using Gelli plates. Once these were dry, we cut them out in many shapes and sizes and collaged them onto a painted canvas. Here are some of our 'practice' canvases that are now on display in the Art Room.

And here are the 3 canvases that are now hanging proudly in the Office. They certainly brighten up the area!

5/6 ~ Leonardo Da Vinci and his Flying Machines

Inspired by the book 'Leonardo and the Flying Boy', Grade 5/6 students were set the challenge of designing and constructing their own flying machine using a variety of recycled and construction materials.

I think Leonardo would be suitably impressed! I certainly was. Great work Grade 5/6.

Whole School - Vincent Van Gogh

Celebrating the current exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, students across all grades have been investigating the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh. Students were so engaged during our lessons, enjoying short videos and stories about Vincent as well as viewing a variety of his famous artworks. It has been so rewarding to hear students talk about his artworks (texture, movement, vivid colours) and recognising some of his works (Starry Night, Wheatfield with Cypresses, Sunflowers).

Our Prep-2 students enjoyed creating beautiful sunflowers for a collaborative display. They used oil pastels to draw, colour and blend their sunflowers and showed great persistence when cutting them out!

The 3/4 students have studied in detail some of Van Gogh's landscape paintings, particularly focusing on Wheatfield with Crows. Using oil pastels, students created their own wheatfield, experimenting with textured marks and perspective.

Our senior students were inspired by Van Gogh's chair and created their own 'pop-up version. Using fineliners and pencils/markers students drew their chairs during a guided drawing session. Patterns were created for the floors and the wall was decorated. After a bit of tricky manipulation with extra paper and making slits in parts of the chair, the final artworks were complete!
